I had been looking for a stand similar to this one for quite a while. Although I could find a reasonably priced stand, the shipping charges were always ridiculous. (One of my biggest pet peeves is spending more for shipping than the actual items costs!) When I saw this one offered for around $10 (including shipping), I pounced! Not a bad deal at all – especially when I’ve seen these same units for $8-$10, without shipping.
If you can tighten a nut on a bolt, you’re able to put it together. Schwing! Easy assembly. This works perfectly with my fine tipped soldering iron and I can almost hear my desk thanking me every time I slide my iron into this stand (rather than trying to carefully balance it in an upside down flower pot). The coild holds the very hot part of my iron securely, so I’m not worried about it being knocked over. And even tho the unit comes with the cheapest little sponge thing I’ve ever seen, it DID come with a sponge. lol It is easy enough to buy a regular sponge and cut it to the desired size for tinning.
I would recommend this to anyone who wants to protect their furniture when soldering. A great little item at a very reasonable price!
